Certified Residential Manager Program

Why CRM?

Learn from the best. MHA's instructors are the leaders, trendsetters and premier experts in the industry today. They not only understand the concpepts, they live and breather them on a day-to-day basis.

Respect. When you wear your CRM pin or display your certificate, everyone you deal with - from residents to vendors to peers - will recognize that they are working with a true professional; translating to increased customer satisfaction and resident retention.

Prestige. CRM is a statewide designation that is recognized and respected not only throughout Minnesota, but also nationwide. The CRM is the benchmark by which other associations model their programs.

Our industry is ever-changing. Continuing education through the CRM program gives you the critical knowledge needed to effectively manage your property through tough times and to increase cash flow.

Increasingly, more and more employers are looking for the CRM designation when they make hiring decisions. They understand and respect the knowledge and skills that a CRM brings to the table. The same also makes you more valuable to your current employer and will give you an edge in the consideration of salary increases and/or promotions.

"Getting my CRM was one of the best decisions I have made, it has given me the tools   to make me feel confident in going after what I want."
 -  Heather K. Property Manager, Steven Scott Management

Pre-requisite Experience/Education – CRM is an intermediate level program. Enrollment is limited to property management professionals with either 1) a minimum of three years direct industry experience or 2) a minimum of one year experience plus at least 15 hours of relevant industry education. Verification of eligibility must be made by the applicant’s supervisor. Class size is restricted and applicants will be reviewed on a first-come, first-served basis.

Classroom Instruction – Designees complete a total of 83 hours of classroom instruction encompassing all aspects of successful property management. Courses are grouped in six modules; with each module offered twice per year. We recognize that designees are busy professionals with full-time obligations. As such the module format is specifically designed to allow designees to join the program at any time and/or to easily make up missed classes.

Management Plan – Designees create a comprehensive Management Plan demonstrating the knowledge they have acquired during the classroom instruction. Designees typically complete the Plan for the property they currently manage, ensuring a relevant finished product the designees will find to be an invaluable tool back on the job.

Exam – Designees must score a 76% or better on the final exam.

Elective Credits – Designees earn a total of 24 elective credits to complete their experience. Credits may be earned in a variety of ways including participation in a MHA committee, attendance at MHA sponsored classes and seminars, volunteering to answer the landlord hotline and judging for the annual MADACS awards, among others.

“Achieving the CRM designation gave me the skills and confidence essential  to building a successful, lifelong career in the field of property management.”
