1. GOVERNMENT RELATIONS

STATE UPDATE:   For questions on any legislative issues, please contact Todd Liljenquist, Director of Government Relations, at (952) 548-2204 or todd.liljenquist@mmha.com .

Brooklyn Park:  The Brooklyn Park City Council adopted amendments to its rental housing licensing ordinance at the July 7 th City Council meeting.  As soon as I get a copy of the final ordinance, it will be sent to the Brooklyn Park contact group.

Anoka:  The Anoka City Council approved the first reading of a new rental housing ordinance that requires annual licensing instead of the current three year cycle.  The new proposal does not deal with licensing fees, those will be considered in December.  The Council also approved the first reading of an ordinance designed to conform the Anoka building code to the Minnesota Building Code as a result of the recent court case, Morris vs. Sax.

South St. Paul:  A City Council Work Session scheduled for Monday, July 14 th , will include discussion of the latest version of the proposed rental housing licensing ordinance.

St. Paul:  The City Council is considering an amendment to its Uniform Fire Code to impose penalties starting with the third false fire alarm in a calendar year, if the false alarm occurs due to mechanical failure or malfunction; improper installation, maintenance or supervision; or negligence.  A public hearing will be held on Wednesday, July 16 th .  The proposal applies to all alarm systems, residential and commercial.

Brooklyn Center:  An update on the Brooklyn Center rental housing plan is on the agenda for the City Council Work Session on Monday, July 14 th .

Please feel free to call me with questions on these or any other municipal issues.  My e-mail address is:  lisa.peilen@mmha.com.  Thank you.
