$100 Million Housing Assistance and a “Tweak” of the Eviction Moratorium Dial

Governor Walz announced yesterday the creation of a $100 million housing assistance program. The program will be funded with federal dollars through the Coronavirus Relief Fund, which was authorized by the federal Coronavirus Aid, Relief, and Economic Security (CARES) Act. Funds will likely be ready to be disbursed by mid- to late-August.

In addition, Governor Walz “tweaked” the Eviction and Lease Termination Moratorium yesterday by issuing Executive Order 20-79 which replaces the previous Executive Orders. The Order goes into effect on August 4th and requires a 7-day notice prior to filing an action permitted under the Executive Order.

Critical Business Preparedness Plans due June 29

On Friday, June 5th, Governor Walz issued an Executive Order (EO 20-74) which allows businesses whose workers qualified for a Critical Sector exemption to continue operating in the same manner provided in EO 20-48. EO 20-74 requires all Critical Businesses to develop and implement a COVID-19 Preparedness Plan by June 29, 2020. Such plans must comply with Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) and Minnesota Department of Health (MDH) COVID-19 guidelines and OSHA standards.

Eviction Moratorium Extension

Eviction Moratorium Extension
Governor Walz announced yesterday that he will extend the peacetime emergency order for another 30 days. The current order is set to expire on Friday, June 12. The extension of the peacetime emergency will also extend the Eviction Moratorium for another 30 days.
