10:00 AM     Understanding Trauma: How Trauma Affects People’s Relationships, Behavior, and Health*
Russ Turner, Training Institute Director, People Incorporated

From COVID-19 isolation to the national civil unrest, people have been experiencing trauma at an alarming rate and it is having a large impact on people’s lives. Exposure to trauma changes people’s brain and health development, which in turn increases the risk of developing illness. It also increases the prevalence of mental illness. Unacknowledged and untreated, this can leave people more isolated and in pain, seeking solace in unhealthy coping strategies. This session will help us understand trauma’s effects on a person and how multi housing leaders can have more effective interactions and help build resilience amongst their employees and residents.
