Self-Study Basic Refrigeration & EPA Certification

For A/C and Refrigeration

This is a self-study course with an in-person exam.

Improper identification and use of refrigerants can damage or destroy HVAC equipment, lead to personal injury and cause serious environmental damage. The EPA Section 608 Technician Certification is required by law to be able to work on building air conditioning and refrigeration systems or to handle refrigerants.

How does Self-Study work?  Once you’ve registered, you’ll receive a packet of study materials. You’ll study on your own, at your own pace and then attend a proctored exam*. You’ll receive your results directly from the testing agency in approximately two weeks. Please note there is no classroom instruction associated with this program.

  • Study materials include:
  • Student Self Study DVD including a coordinated overview and Q & A
  • Diagrams and Charts
  • Full-color, 47-page Study Guide with illustrations
  • Air Conditioning Theory handouts
  • Check Yourself Answer Sheet for practice questions from the Study Guide

We recommend registering early to ensure plenty of study time. You must register at least two weeks in Advance of your desired exam date to allow for receipt of study materials.
