Presented by: Stefanie Fauth and Austyn Aagaard, Office of the Minnesota Secretary of State, and Clarice Scarnecchia, Landlord Resource Network

Minnesota’s Safe at Home program is designed to help people who fear for their safety maintain a confidential address. Participants are often survivors of domestic violence, sexual assault, or stalking. • Learn the basics of the Violence Against Women Act (VAWA), including who is protected and which programs are covered.
  • Gain practical guidance on confidentiality requirements, including what information may (and may not) be disclosed under VAWA and how a “Notice to Landlord or Property Managers” may affect the classification of a Safe at Home participants’ data.
  • Understand documentation requirements and verification procedures under VAWA and Safe at Home.
  • Compare VAWA protections with Minnesota law, including key differences from Minn. Stat. § 504B.206
  • Learn lease bifurcation and emergency transfer obligations under VAWA.
  • Walk through how Safe at Home and VAWA affect evictions.
  • Discuss best practices, including developing and implementing policies and procedures.

This is a Lunch & Learn session, with lunch provided by American Family Insurance – Fost Choles Agency, Archway Contracting, and Citizens State Bank. Thank you to our sponsors!
