This is a self-study course with an in-person exam.
Improper identification and use of refrigerants can damage or destroy HVAC equipment, lead to personal injury and cause serious environmental damage. The EPA Section 608 Technician Certification is required by law to be able to work on building air conditioning and refrigeration systems or to handle refrigerants.
How does Self-Study work? Once you’ve registered and paid in full, you’ll receive a packet of study materials electronically via email. You’ll study on your own, at your own pace and then attend a proctored exam*. You’ll receive your results directly from the testing agency in approximately two weeks. Please note there is no classroom instruction associated with this program.
Study materials include:
• Pressure & Temperature Charts (may be used during the exam) • EPA Study Manual • EPA Section 608 Practice Exam

• There is no classroom instruction. • Registration is required at least two weeks in advance of exam date to ensure timely receipt of study materials. • Early registration is highly recommended to allow ample time for preparation.

Any and all substitutions must be received before December 29, 2025. Substitutions are accepted via phone call or email and will be time-stamped according to the time they were received by our system (voice mail or email). After December 29, 2025, no changes to the registration may be made. If you do not attend, and would like to be in another exam offering, you are liable for a new exam registration fee, and will not be entitled to any refund, without exception. Retake exams are available at $65.00 per retake.
